The University of Essex Choir was founded in 1977 and is made up of about 150 singers. Its membership is drawn from staff and students of the University and from the local community. Since 1981 the conductor has been Richard Cooke. The students of the university make up about 1/5 of the Choir. The Choir performs concerts three times a year.
Music Production Society
Music Production Society is for individuals who either want to learn or share a passion for producing music. We aim to build a society where music enthusiasts have a location to meet and share ideas.
Our University has strong metal roots going all the way back to 1978 when AC/DC played what is now Sub Zero. Add to this the thriving metal scene in Colchester that has included recent tours from the likes of Paradise Lost, Dragonforce and Black Stone Cherry alongside frequent metal at the local pubs, and you will have no problem keeping your life suitably HEAVY. See you in the pit!
For any punk music fans, we are here! We meet up, go to local gigs, share new music we've found, attend nights out together, and discuss this amazing genre over drinks.
The Music Society is for people who play instruments, sing, want to learn to play an instrument or just love music. It offers musicians practice spaces and a wide array of equipment as well as hosting regular meetings and socials to bring together people who share similar music interests providing them with the nessecary space and equipment to jam and form musical relationships.
Rock and Indie Society
We're a new society created to fill the need for a more diverse range of music (and better music) on campus. If you enjoy a bit of rock & indie music or a lot, this is the place for you! We're all very friendly and are up for having a good time, so if you're into the same thing then feel free to come and meet us! We look forward to meeting all you music lovers (with the best taste).
