LGBT & Friends
The LGBT & Friends society was established over 40 years ago, in hopes of providing unforgettable experiences for the students at University of Essex who identify as LGBT*. Today, we organise events, campaigns, and celebrate key LGBT dates to both educate and involve students on campus about what it's like to be an LGBT* person.
Zapatista Solidarity Group
Our group stands in solidarity with the Zapatista struggle, based on the Maya Indians from the south of Mexico. In their fight for education, freedom, democracy and dignity, they emerged as one of the international symbols of anti-capitalism and made possible movements such as “Occupy” and “Los Indignados”. Join our talks, discussions and direct actions in support of the Zapatistas and all the struggling for a more just world.
Essex Young Greens
The Young Greens is the student arm of the Green Party of England and Wales (GPEW). Green Party policies aim at building a more economically, socially and politically equal and environmentally sustainable society, and this society is for students who agree with all of the above!!
The Human Rights Society was created so that students could discuss and share thoughts about human rights issues. At our meetings students can express their interest in a particular human rights issue in a specific country/place, which we then discuss as a group. We believe this is one of the best ways of learning about the real and personal implications of violations of human rights.
Are you into International Relations, Politics, Law, Human Rights and the state of the world around you? Do you want to join us when we go to Geneva, New York, Vienna, The Hague and many other places to discuss some of the most interesting and pressing issues of our world today?
