You nailed it. You're now officially a member of Essex Students' Union. Go you.
At Essex we're not like other Students' Unions and we don't want to be.
Here, you're not just a member of a Students' Union, you're part of a family. An unconventional family made up of students from around the world, that can achieve pretty much whatever we want together.
One of the first things you'll do when you get to Essex is collect your heirloom.
The heirloom is your unique, customisable symbol of belonging to the SU family. It's available in handmade shapes with a choice of attachments, all presented in a box to treasure.
Individually numbered and yours for life - when you graduate, your number is passed down to a new student, and you get the chance to hand down your stories, tips and experiences.
Over time we’ll create generations of connected Essex students that can help each other get jobs, start businesses, do research and change the world.
Here’s what happened last year:
The SU social space is brand new, its your space to use however you like. To help you decide what you might like to use it for we have some facilities in there for you already.
Come along and get hot drinks and snacks, play Xbox, study with friends or just relax. The space can even be booked out for clubs, societies and general use. If you've got an idea for an event we want to hear it.
Just upstairs from the social space is the amazing SU Advice Service. This service is there to help you, and advise on everything. They can help with academic problems and personal issues, and just about everything in between. SU Advice can help international students with their Tier 4 Visa renewals. If you have any questions relating to this service or SU Advice email us here.
Want to play sport but not ready to commit to regular training? Are you a beginner and want to enhance your skills? Or maybe you just want to try something different and new (that’s what Uni is about after all!) - then get involved in Just Play!
The sessions are (nearly always) free. It's a fun and great way to meet new people. If you have any questions please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
By being a member of the SU, you get the chance to do more interesting stuff in your spare time than you ever have.
Clubs and societies are all run by students and are great ways of meeting new people and doing what you already love or trying new stuff.
You can join as many or as few of these as you want, or you can use the SU as a platform to start your own.
We aim to provide additional theatre experience to students within a more social environment. We will put on shows and plays for other students staff to watch.
We provide a medium where Malaysian students are able to seek help, advice, and company while adjusting themselves in a foreign country. The multi-racial culture of Malaysia will also be introduced to other foreign students, spreading the awareness and knowledge of different countries. We encourage the sense of community within the Malaysian students and welcome foreigners who have taken an interest in the cultures if Malaysia.
In essence, we are a non-denominational group of Christians aiming to share the Good news of the saving Grace of God through his Son Jesus Christ. We welcome both Christians and non-Christians, whether you're a Christian seeking to grow further in the love of God, or you're a non-Christian that has questions about who God is and what we believe.
We support and advise nursing students throughout their degree. We run socials and events for nursing students catered around our course. We attend professional events as a society e.g. Royal College of Nursing events. We hold debates and learning days with guest speakers.
We’ll be showing all the best blockbusters and classic movies so you don't miss your chance to see them how they're meant to be seen. The best bit is most of the time it’s completely free. Films are shown in the Forum Lecture Theatre every Thursday from 7.30pm.
You don't need need to buy a ticket, just turn up, find a seat and enjoy the film. It's also Free if you're a South Essex College student doing a Higher Education course with the University. Films are planned in advance but if you have a suggestion for a film you think we should show, drop an email to email@example.com
